About Clarks Summit, PA

Clarks Summit is a borough in Lackawanna County located in the scenic Abingtons region, just six miles northwest of Scranton. The community was named for William Clark, a Revolutionary War veteran who settled the area in 1799, and was officially incorporated as a borough in 1911. Today Clarks Summit is known for its tree-lined streets, strong sense of community, and its location at the northern terminus of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476). The borough’s downtown State Street features specialty shops, restaurants, and preserved historic buildings, while Lackawanna State Park offers year-round outdoor recreation just a short drive away. Clarks Summit’s older homes — many featuring basements and crawl spaces common to the region — along with the area’s cool, humid climate, make professional mold inspection an important consideration for local homeowners.

Is mold dangerous?

Airborne and surface mold spores can cause allergic and respiratory issues. Some people are more susceptible to mold exposure than others due to underlying medical conditions.

Is mold removal expensive?

It depends, of course, upon the size of the job and the areas affected.  A smaller job of a few square feet can generally be handled without professional assistance (as noted in the US EPA Guide to Mold), so the only expense involved there is the cleaning supplies and PPE (such as rubber gloves and masks).  Once you go beyond the smaller jobs, there is a wide range of possible costs based upon work required.  If porous components like drywall are contaminated with active growth, then removal and disposal are required.  However, situations that involve cleaning generally involve lower costs than ones that require removal of walls, carpeting, etc.
